Understanding Your Assessment Notice

Received an Assessment Notice?

If you received an assessment notice from the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR), it means the Department has determined that additional tax, penalty, interest, or other amounts may be due.

Your notice explains:

  • Why the notice was issued
  • The tax type and tax period involved
  • The amount due (if applicable)
  • Any response deadline
  • Your options for resolving the matter

Most taxpayers can review their account and resolve their balance online through LaTAP.

  • Explain why you received the notice.
  • Review your return for accuracy.

If you prepared the return yourself, or your preparer cannot resolve the issue, LDR is available to assist you.

Note: A valid Power of Attorney or other authorization may be required before LDR can discuss confidential tax information with your representative.
